Sound Equine Options today announced their second free
"Humane Equine Euthanasia Clinic for Owners in Need," to be held on
Tuesday, April 20. For owners experiencing severe financial challenges that
have compromised the welfare of their horse, the Humane Euthanasia Clinic
provides an alternative to suffering through the option of a peaceful
death.
All owners considering participation in the clinic must fill
out an application and meet Sound Equine Options minimum qualifications. Horses
scheduled for a clinic are, upon arrival, examined by a veterinarian to
determine whether it is a candidate for rescue/adoption or humane euthanasia,
in accordance with the AAEP Guidelines for Humane Euthanasia. The first
Humane Euthanasia Clinic was held in November, 2009 and had 6 participants.
Horse owners interested in participating in the April clinic can contact Sound Equine
Options at info@soundequineoptions.org
or by calling 1-877-707-7675.
In addition to continuing with quarterly Humane Euthanasia
Clinics, Sound Equine Options is also announcing the development of a second
program: "Promoting and Supporting Quality Equine Foster Homes."
This initiative will include a veterinary-based program to inspect and
certify quality foster homes in NW Oregon and SW Washington. Approved
facilities will be offered a centralized adoption database and veterinary exams
on newly adopted horses. According to Sound Equine Options' founding
veterinarian, Dr. Scott Hansen, "Strengthening the available foster and
rescue options is central to our mission of measurably reducing the number of
suffering and starving horses in our region."
